A ROMSEY man was found dead in his car after suffering from severe depression, an inquest heard.

Paul Grahamsley, of Horseshoe Drive, died on January 20 in a layby on Poles Lane near Hursley.

The inquest, on Tuesday, November 28 at Winchester Coroners' Court, heard that Mr Grahamsley, 51, had been suffering from what he thought was bipolar disorder.

Mr Grahamsley was an electrician and had his own business.

His daughter Eleanor Grahamsley told the inquest that he opened up to her about his struggles.

She said: "He told me he thought he had dyslexia and ADHD, we bonded over that.

"We talked a lot about our mental health. We bonded over our disabilities, or as he called them, 'our abilities'."

The inquest heard that on January 20, he had been located at Poles Lane using a phone tracking app, when found he was unresponsive.

Mr Grahamsley's friend Yee Lay Tang told the inquest: "He always had his ups and downs with his mental health, but would always bounce back."

A post mortem was conducted by consultant pathologist Dr Hayley Burnley. It determined the cause of death as carbon monoxide poisoning.

Senior coroner Christopher Wilkinson said: "He may well have been suffering with undiagnosed bipolar disorder. He had chronic depression and was wrestling with that.

"He was incredibly fond of his daughters and opened up about his difficulties. But I fear he wasn't opening up enough, much was held back."

Mr Wilkinson gave the cause of death as suicide and added: "He took his own life while suffering from acute anxiety and depression."

The coroner gave his condolences to his family and friends and said: "I'm sure you have very fond memories of him."
