TEAM Solent will be letting fans in free of charge next Monday (September 5, 7.45pm) for their rearranged Sydenhams Premier Division fixture against Alresford Town.

The original match on August 1 – the first of the Wessex League season – was just 27 minutes old when Solent full-back Myles Keizer-Burrows suffered an horrific double leg break, forcing the referee to abandon proceedings.

Richard Luffman's Alresford were 2-0 up at the time.

The stricken player was on the pitch for around an hour while an ambulance was called and, with the main priority keeping him warm and dry on a miserable, wet evening, the club were unable to make contingency plans for supporters.

They are therefore inviting everyone in for free at Test Park on Monday to make amends for those who paid the £6/£3 entry fee without getting to see a whole game.

Team Solent chairman Bill Moore said: “It was a bit of a raw deal for the spectators but, because of the delay with the ambulance and the fact it was lashing down with rain, there was a certain amount of disorientation and we weren’t able to hand out tickets or anything like that.

“We appreciate that not everyone who came to watch that evening will be able to come again, but we just feel it’s a gesture – particularly for Alresford fans - to let everyone in free of charge.

“We had a young ref who came in for a bit of stick at the time, but there were a lot of elements to be taken into account on the night and he decided to abandon the game.”

Keizer-Burrows is recovering at home in London, but the club hope to see him soon when his studies resume at Southampton Solent University.

Monday's match is dependent on Alresford, home to Fareham Town in the FA Cup first qualifying round on Saturday, not requiring a midweek replay.
