Meon Valley MP Flick Drummond met with flooding charity Slow the Flow recently in Westminster.

The private organization was established after the 2015 Boxing Day Floods to explore environmentally friendly methods of flood control as the climate crisis changes the UK's weather patterns.

Natural flood management (NFM) works with nature to reduce flood risks, employing numerous techniques to mimic or restore river, floodplain, and wider catchment functions.

The objective is to capture water in the catchment area and decrease the speed of river influx, thus minimising downstream flooding.

Among other names, NFM is also termed 'nature-based solutions' or 'slow the flow'.

Ms Drummond said: "I very much enjoyed delving into this exciting area of flood prevention that prioritises working with and not against nature to limit flooding and improve biodiversity too.

"Just as an aside, I talked about how I had been given bad publicity over asking people not to use washing machines or flush loos during heavy storms to help limit pollution and flooding and everyone at the event agreed this was helpful advice.

"They called it the ‘accumulation of marginal gains’ which was a nice technical term to say every bit counts. I rest my case."
