NATIONAL Lottery funded spots helping Hampshire communities tackle climate change are filling up fast.

The Greening Campaign only has two of its 20 spaces left, available for villages or towns in the county to receive expert guidance on being more environmentally friendly.

One of the final information events will be at Romsey Town Hall from 7pm on Tuesday, March 26, inviting residents to come and find out more about the project.

Communities that receive one of the 20 National Lottery-funded spots will gain support in reducing energy use, exploring health impacts related to climate change, preventing waste, introducing more biodiversity in gardens and green spaces and growing their own food.

Terena Plowright, founder of the Greening Campaign, said: “When we opened the programme, we were looking to work with 20 communities, and we have been amazed at the interest and take-up from right across the county. Communities have really come together and are already achieving quite remarkable things.  We only have two places left and so I would urge anyone interested in taking part to get in touch as soon as possible.”

The campaign has teamed up with Hampshire County Council, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust and the sustainable gardening charity Garden Organic, to bring a supported programme to residents in Hampshire.

To showcase the success of the projects Southampton University is monitoring and evaluating the work.

In 15 years, the Greening Campaign has worked with more than 200 communities. For more information email hello@greening-campaign.org or go to greening-campaign.org.
