AN Alresford man has been jailed for possessing thousands of indecent images.

Kevin Chaffey, 51, was already serving a prison sentence for breaking a sexual harm prevention order.

Chaffey, formerly of Meryon Road, has had another ten months added to the sentence by a judge at Winchester Crown Court.

He admitted three charges of possessing indecent images.

Police officers found 7,111 illegal images with some girls as young as five being abused, said Richard Martin, prosecuting.

The court heard Chaffey had a long record of sexual offending dating back to 1995, including indecent exposure, assault and child pornography.

Mitigating Ruba Huleihel said: "I asked him his view of his offending. He struggled to phrase how he feels. He says he is not happy with himself. He is trying to get help. He knows he has a problem and wants to address it."

Sentencing, Judge Adam Feest KC said: "You have an appalling record for sexual offences and importantly for today possession of indecent images of children, a large number of images of young girls being sexually abused."

"You are in prison for a breach of a sexual harm prevention order very soon after it was made. You are going to spend longer in prison."

A new sexual harm prevention order was also imposed to last ten years.
