Vicar of Romsey, Revd Canon Tim Sledge said: “Ninety years of life is a remarkable achievement, but 90 years of faithful service to this country is even more remarkable.

“Opportunities to celebrate like this don’t come along very often so we wanted to wish Her Majesty many happy returns and celebrate in a place which has such fond memories for her and in a town which has an important part in the history of the Royal Family.

“We invite the whole town to come and join us this weekend and celebrate a little or celebrate a lot.”

The Mayor of Romsey, John Parker, in his first major event for the town said how important the weekend’s events will be.

Hampshire Chronicle:

“The whole point of the celebrations is for the town to come together and to celebrate a remarkable period in the life of the Queen reaching 90 who hare provided a degree of certainty and stability," he said.

“She gives a good steady hand on the tiller despite what happens in elections.

“I think it’s just lovely seeing the town coming together.”
