TWO fundraisers are being held in Plaitford this weekend to help cover the cost of improvements to the village hall.

One is a family dog show and the other is a jumble sale and both are being staged at the village hall which is a former Victorian schoolhouse. Chairman of Plaitford Village Hall Sarah Pearce said she hopes that people from the community will support Sunday’s fundraisers which will be staged at the hall between 2pm and 4pm.

Explaining that the village hall was in desperate need of updating, Mrs Pearce added: “We plan to refurbish much of the main hall from floor to ceiling and we want to put in a door that will open out on to the patio seating area and redecorate the outside of the hall.”

Mrs Pearce added that the cost of the proposed work has yet to be estimated.

“We are getting quotes for the work and won’t know the cost until then, but it is likely to be quite a bit. We’ve already added a disabled toilet and also replaced the other toilets, done the roof and put in a new boiler during previous improvements. We would to make the village hall more appealing for people to use,” said Mrs Pearce adding that the building is used for various activities including weekly auctions, keep fit classes, flower arranging and band practices.
